DISNEY FILMING 'JOHN CARTER OF MARS' MOVIE IN DORSET ENGLAND 25th February 2010

Dorset is a truly beautiful place in parts but boy can it get really boring! Trust me... I'm from London you know! Step out of the door and it's just... peaceful! However it was good to get out and about recently and have a look at the goings on near Worth Matravers where a film crew have taken over the car park... excitement!
It turns out that Disney are filming at a nearby location for a film due for release in 2012 called 'John Carter Of Mars' directed by Andrew Stanton and with special effects by Pixar. The JCOM actors include Taylor Kitsch, James Purefoy and Willem Dafoe. Music score for the film is to be provided by Michael Giachinno who has also scored for The Incredibles, Mission Impossible III, Up and the latest Star Trek film.
Worth Matravers is a village in the Purbeck Hills in Dorset along the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site in an area famous for its stone quarries, some of which have left caves along the cliffs.
Winspit is just such a quarry and has been used before as a location for other sci-fi filming such as Doctor Who and Blakes 7.
In 2009 nearby Langton Matravers played host to the filming of the BBC's most recent adaptation of Tess Of The Durbervilles... it really is a cracking coast line and well worth a visit... in the summer!
Presumably the director wanted rain and fog by visiting at this time of year... I was in a rush to get to the location as I had other business however was entirely unable to run as I would have ended up looking like a brown mud covered Martian ;O)
So I have taken a few photos to put up in a bit for film fans with a Google map of the location... and when it stops raining I'll get some photos of the Winspit quarry caves.

I have been down to watch some filming but I'm not about to start sneaking shots of the production... I don't do paparazzi! So best look forward to the film when it comes out then! 8O)
